Selected Problems of Polish and Czech Holocaust Literature and Culture

The volume contains papers from an international workshop held on 27 and 28 May 2010 at the University of Gießen. This meeting launched a trilateral research collaboration between the Universities of Lodz, Prague and Gießen. The project focused on comparative research on questions related to literary, stage and film representations of the Nazi genocide and its aftermath. The eight papers included in the book use examples to define the thematic and methodological scope of the longer-term research project. The authors of the studies deal with general and more special issues of Polish and Czech Holocaust literature and culture. Among others, the work of authors such as Tadeusz Borowski, Czesław Miłosz, Josef Škvorecký, Hana Bělohradská, Ladislav Fuks and Andrzej Szczypiorski, or film directors Zbyněk Brynych and Juraj Herz, as well as theatre director Krzysztof Warlikowski, are discussed in detail.
